“Invisible Psychoanalytic Identities” is an invitation to ask about and to discuss the meaning, the layers, the struggles, the visible and invisible aspects of our psychoanalytical identities.
How do we create/discover ourselves as psychoanalysts? This identity, what is it made from? And the identity of psychoanalysis itself? How solid this identity should be? And how fluid? How permeable?
Identity, is it defined as a land or by its borders? Or is it a borderland in perpetual transformation where a gathering is always happening between our subjective history, our conflicts and anxieties, our own analysis, our supervisors, our formative familiar romance, our cherished and hated authors, our ethical dilemmas, our political perspective, our cultural context, our body, our sexuality, and the other(s), the patient, the colleague, the institution, the external reality?
We welcome proposals for communications that aim to debate around theoretical, technical and formative models, but also the more invisible aspects of the identity of psychoanalysis and of psychoanalysts: the ethical challenges, the power games, the undeclared conflicts, the promiscuities, the areas of “no thought”, the unspoken rules of acceptance or rejection, the anxieties aroused during the formative years, the repressions, the idealizations, the splittings, the value of the groups we take part in and of the links that we establish with colleagues, the clinical issues that haunt us and the clinical moments that nurture us.
We also welcome proposals for case presentations that help us work through these issues.
We invite all IPSO members to come to Lisbon for the 25th IPSO European Meeting so that together we can elaborate some answers and, hopefully, generate more questions.
